Isaiah (), who also was contemporary with these events, mentions it along with Elam. Some have supposed that Kir is a variant of Cush (Susiana), on the south of Elam.Cush (Susiana), on the south QIR-HARESETH; KIR-HERES [ISBE] QIR-HARESETH; KIR-HERES - kur-har'-seth, -ha-re'-seth> (qir-charesh, Isa 16:7; in 2 Ki 3:25 the King James Version reads Kir-haraseth (pausal form)); (qir cheres, Jer 48:31,36; in Isa 16:11 the King James Version reads Kir-haresh (pausal form)): Modern scholars unanimously identify this city with Kir of Moab. In Jehoram's invasion of Moab it alone withstood his Kir of Moab: (fortress of Moab) one of the two chief strongholds of Moab, the other being Ar of Moab. The name occurs only in Isaiah 15:1 though the place is probably referred to under the names of Kir‐heres, Kir‐harseth, etc. It is almost identical with the name Kerak, by which the site of an important city in a high and very strong position at the southeast of the Dead Sea is known at KIR OF MOAB kûr (קִיר־מוֹאָ֖ב, Wall of Moab). The term is used only in Isaiah 15:1 in a passage parallel to Ar of Moab.
